Support Crew

For your success, we strongly recommend the teams to have its own Support Crew!

What is a Support Crew?
These are the people who look after your team during the event. Your Support Crew will probably be family or friends. They will not walk with you along the course, but will meet you at the start, each checkpoint and the goal.

MUST we have a Support Crew?
You can participate in the Oxfam Trailwalker Japan without your support crew, but they are important to your team's success and your safety. We strongly advise you to have a Support Crew. For those who cannot have its own support crew, you can use the optional baggage carry services.

What does a Support Crew do?
 -At the event
・Carry your luggage by car between checkpoints.
・Provide food and drink - Basic refreshments are available at every checkpoint but
your Support Crew will need to prepare hot/cold meals and your favorite food and
   drinks.
・Transport you to and from the event.
・Provide Support and Boost Morale - a smiling face and a few words of encouragement
will help you on your way.
・Monitor your progress and alert us in case of trouble.

 -Before the event

・Planing of Support - You may need more support at some checkpoints and less at others.
・Many teams put some time and thought into which checkpoints they will to change
   from day to night gear.
・Practice makes Perfect - spending time to test equipment and checking the course
for changes or problems will help during the event.
・Include your Support Crew in team meetings and trainings.
・They will then have a better understanding of what you will encounter along the course.
・Money - Be prepared to cover the cost of transport, lodging, food and other expenses
   during the event.
・Emergencies - Prepare the contact list in case of emergencies.
・Find the best way to communicate with each other and Oxfam.
・Fundraising - Support Crews can assist with fundraising before and after the event.

How many people should be in a Support Crew?
You need at least two people in your Support Crew. Ideally there will be at least two pairs of volunteers working in shifts over the weekend. It is common practice for one crew to support your team throughout daytime and have a relief crew take over for the night shift. Most teams suggest having at least four people in a Support Crew.
