The route of Oxfam trail walker Japan includes special protection area of a national park. To protect the rich nature and safety hiking, “Guideline for Hiking in Hakone areas, Fuji-Hakone-Izu national park” have been set by “Hakone chiiki hodo riyou no arikata uchiawase kai” (translation: Preliminary Meeting of the Walking Trail in Hakone Area) that consists of 12 organisation in Hakone area.
All participants are required to read these guidelines carefully. In the Hakone area, please comply with the rule “walking in single line” and pay special attention to protection of the environment, and safety of other hikers.
On the climbing routes in Hakone, you will be able to experience rich nature formed under varied geographical and geological conditions related to volcanic activities. However, the nature may be affected and damaged as a result of improper behavior. These guidelines should be strictly followed in order to protect the nature of Hakone for the generations to come and to ensure safe and enjoyable hiking. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
1. Do not damage plants or harm animals.
2. Do not damage any facilities on the route and do not stray from the route.
3. Watch your step not to step in the plant when passing someone on the route.
4. Walk in single row if you are in a group, and pay attention to animals, plants and other people.
5. Do not damage the ground when using a stick. Consider covering the tip of sticks with rubber.
6. On rocky stretchs, try to avoid letting stones and rocks fall.
7. Bring litter home.
8. Camping and campfires are only allowed in designed areas (camping area).
9. Keep down the sound volume of radio and similar devices. Be considerate of other people
and wild animals.
10. Do not take any pets, such as dogs, on the trail. They might disturb the wild animals and other
people.
“The route” refers to the hiking trail that is the road maintained to enjoy the beautiful nature and to study historical facts.
