The Trail

From Odawara City to Lake Yamanaka

The trail starts from Odawara-city and finishes at Lake Yamanaka. This is a challenging course, but we are sure you will enjoy the beautiful views and nature along the course.

The check points New!

There will be 8 check points between the start and the finish, where Oxfam provides basic food such as water, energy drink, soup, bread, noodles and fruits and toilets and place to take some rest. At the check points 4 and 7, free stretch services will be provided, too.

We strongly recommend the teams to organize support crews' to meet the teams at check points and provide additional food of their choice, and clothes for change.

Important Announcement

The route of Oxfam trailwalker Japan includes special protection area of a national park. To protect the rich nature and safety hiking, “Guideline for Hiking in Hakone areas, Fuji-Hakone-Izu national park” have been set by “Hakone chiiki hodo riyou no arikata uchiawase kai” (translation: Preliminary Meeting of the Walking Trail in Hakone Area) that consists of 12 organisation in Hakone area. All participants are required to read these guidelines carefully, and please comply with the rule “walking in single line” and pay special attention to protection of the environment, and safety of other hikers.

■CAUTION: Be careful when training on the course during winter!!

With 2 months to go until Oxfam Trailwalker Japan 2010, some participants have started their training.

Currently, snow is thawing around the Trailwalker course area, and ground condition is expected to be wet and slippery.
It is forcasted to rain this weekend, so please prepare yourself with rain gears and other equipments.

Please refrain from undertaking training hikes if you are inexperienced in hiking in extreme weather conditions.
If you are training on the course, please reconfirm the following points:


* Clothes: prepare yourself for cold weather. Wear warm layers of cloths, gloves and hats etc.
* Shoes: wear mountain shoes. NO running shoes (this applies to hiking the course at any time)
* Carry portable food, flashlights and cell phones
# Also refer to “Items to carry - checklist”; this is the minimum level of equipment required during winter.


* Confirm the weather information and do not hike if bad weather is expected
* Plan with flexibility, avoid risks and do not go beyond your comfort zone or your fitness ability.
* Never go climbing alone, and stay together when hiking in a party.

Mountain climbing in winter contains has a higher risk of accident.
Careless mistakes may lead to fatalities.
Please act responsibly and with utmost caution.
